This month, Tourism Southern Highlands (TSH) continued to see new tourism product coming on board, all providing more reasons for visitors to come to our region.

  • Bloomfield Bowral - the newest Bed & Breakfast for the Southern Highlands. 
  • Fling In The Vines - Enjoy a wine or two whilst cycling along our Southern Highlands wine trail.
  • Exeter General Store - another iconic Southern Highlands business, and a great place for a good coffee.
  • Geralda Cottage - the newsest Self Contained accommodation.  This one is pet and child friendly.

AMBASSADOR REWARDS PROGRAM
"My Southern Highlands" Ambassador Rewards Program
This campaign was officially launched last week with all Wingecarribee businesses and residents receiving their new Rewards Card. Click here to see all of the current offers and remember that as a TSH Partner you can always add new offers, simply contact us here at Tourism Southern Highlands.  As a participant please ensure that you display your redemption posters and staff are proactive with your offer.

 MEDIA & INDUSTRY PROMOTION
During April we saw a number of key media / industry visits into the Southern Highlands together with lots of
print, online and TV media exposure as follows:

  • The Canberra Times visited the region with an overnight stay at Strathburn Cottage on Monday 27 April as well as highlighting the inaugral Highlands Harvest Hunt.
  • The Illawarra Mercury & The Mercury Weekend Magazine covered stories on the Illawarra Fly, Alpaca Trail, Rail Travel, Fling In The Vines, Weekend Getaway Family Recession Busters, Brigadoon, Milk Factory Gallery Exhibition, the Highlands Harvest Hunt and our Easter celebrity visit by Nicole Kidman & Keith Urban to their Sutton Forest home.
  • Southern Highland News, Highlands Post, Radio 2ST, Snapshot, Your Times & the Southern Highlands Visitors Guide continued to showcase and support local events, visits, attractions and history.
  • WIN TV provided fantastic overall support including the Highlands Harvest Hunt, My Southern Highlands Ambassador Rewards, Fling In The Vines, 2009 Holiday Planner, International Polocrosse Tournament, Tulip Time Launch, and more. 
  • ABC Illawarra, continued to give us great event exposure.
  • The Sydney Morning Herald highlighted The Arts, Spa's, the Prancing Horse Ferarri Tours and Tom's Women, a show held at the Mittagong Playhouse.
  • The Sun Herald gave a whole page to Mittagong's famous Fitzroy Inn, and there was also the online version on the SMH Online:  check it out here
  • The Sunday Telegraph print and online versions - included a story about our local produce, the Illawarra Fly Treetop Walk and Peppers Manor House at Sutton Forest.
  • Harness Racing NSW Gazette - Southern Highlands Short Breaks - Bowral & Mittagong.  This feature will be in both the print media and online versions.  Check it out at www.gazettonline.com.au
  • Highlife - showcased Southern Highlands tourism product and services in a special 10 page feature.
  • TNSW Short Breaks Campaign, click here to look at the visit NSW site for full details of this promotion. 
  • E-Way Tag Chat for Autumn 2009 - showcased the Southern Highlands with over half a page highlighting coming events throughout March & April, like the Moss Vale Show, the Jazz Festival, Burrwang Easter Markets, the Bowral Autumn Music Festival, the Highalnds Harvest Hunt, the 2009 International Polocrosse Tournament and the Women's World Cup Cricket.
  • ABC TV provided great exposure for our region with Bowral & Mittagong getting a great wrap on Around The World In 80 Gardens - Australian & New Zealand on Thursday 21 April.  AND on Sunday 28 April we saw the 2009 International Polocrosse Tournament showcased on Landline.

During May we will see coverage in print media as follows:

  • Vogue Entertaining & Travel will feature the Southern Highlands in its May edition as part of the Surrounds Short Break Destination Promotion, focusing on a "taste" of what we have to offer, Centennial Vineyards and Eschalot are both given a special mention.
  • Readers Digest features food and wine in the Southern Highlands in their May edition, take a look here.

TULIP TIME UPDATE
A very successful launch of the 2009 Tulip Time Festival took place on Tuesday 28 April in Corbett Gardens and was celebrated by the planting of the first tulip bulb by the 2009 local celebrity Ambassador, author Bryce Courtenay. A special thanks goes to Harriet Goodall for pulling it all together, and to the kindergarten children from St Thomas Aquinas School for their enthusiasm.

The appointment of a full time TSH Event Co-Ordinator has now been confirmed, Peter Farrugia will commence in this role from Monday 18 May.  Please join with us in welcoming Peter into this new position and also in thanking Harriet Goodall who has held the reins and ensured that the Festival preparations have continued until Peter's appointment.

THE SOUTHERN HIGHLANDS STIMULUS PACKAGE & DVD LAUNCH
The Southern Highlands Stimulus Package
The TSH Stimulus Package was launched to our tourism industry at the Empire Cinema on Tuesday 21 April, with Approximately 100 people in attendance.  TSH Manager, Steve Rosa outlined the strategy and media plan for the upcoming Winter SECRETS Short Breaks Southern Highlands advertising campaign.  The evening concluded with the launch of the new Tourism DVD's.  All partners will shortly receive details on how to participate in the SECRETS campaign. 

On Wednesday 22 April the Minister For Regional Development, Phil Costa MP launched the new Tourism DVDs at the Bradman Museum of Cricket Theatrette.  Media and VIP's were also presented with details of the Stimulus Package, the My Southern Highlands Ambassador Rewards Promotion and the new SECRETS Advertising Campaign.
