WELCOME TO AUTUMN
Outside of the negative publicity associated with Bowral this past month, the Southern Highlands continues to prosper as measured with a further increase in visitors to the Southern Highlands VIC in Mittagong during February. The VIC recorded a 63% growth over the previous year.  Autumn heralds numerous exciting events which will continue to give potential visitors more reasons to visit us.  See some of our event highlights below.

TOURISM WEEK
TSH will launch our very own Southern Highlands Tourism Week from Monday 22 until Sunday 28 March, with TSH staff meeting locals in high volume areas of Bowral, Bundanoon, Mittagong, Moss Vale & Robertson.  The promotional week will highlight the value of tourism and aim to:

  • Lift the profile of tourism and its associated value to our region.
  • Promote the "My Southern Highlands" Ambassador Rewards program.
  • Highlight this year's Tulip Time program, and
  • Promote the services offered through our Southern Highlands VIC in Mittagong.

INDUSTRY SEMINARS & DEVELOPMENT OPPORTUNITIES
Online Marketing or Exporting to South East Asia, the choice is yours, so don't miss your chance to participate in either or both of these great industry workshops conducted by the Department of State & Regional Development (DSRD).

2010 SOUTHERN HIGHLANDS HOLIDAY PLANNER & MAP LAUNCH
TSH will launch the 2010 Southern Highlands Holiday Planner & Map to Media on Tuesday 16 March at the Fitz Roy Iron Works, Highlands Marketplace in Mittagong.  All TSH Members will be forwarded reference copies of the Southern Highlands Holiday Planner & Map following the launch.  All NSW Visitor Information Centres, Tourism NSW and Tourism Australia have also been sent these new destination guides and maps.

TULIP TIME 2010
2010 marks the 50th anniversary of the regions' flagship event, Tulip Time.  We will be announcing to the Media the 2010 supporting Charity on Tuesday 16 March at the Southern Highlands Visitor Information Centre. This year's chosen charity is both local and well known with national brand prominence.  

The Golden Jubilee celebation will have a real party theme and include events such as a Rock n'Roll Dinner Dance, a cocktail function at Milton Park, Night Fest activities including a champagne bar in Corbett Gardens and twilight street parade.  There will also be lantern making workshops held prior to the night street parade to allow for the lanterns to be part of the twilight parade - lots of fun for young and old.  Workshop times and venues will be advised shortly.  For more details of this years program click here.

BENEFIT OF THE MONTH
The 2010-11 "My Southern Highlands" Ambassador Rewards program is in full planning mode.  All TSH Members will shortly be forwarded details and a participation form, for completion and return to TSH by 16 March.

This year, (the program's third) will see a number of changes, all implemted to encourage more locals to use their Rewards Cards and also to encourage offer providers to actively promote their offers to card holders.

  • This year all WSC residents will receive a NEW "My Southern Highlands" Rewards Card AND a Rewards Passport Booklet of offers.
  • ALL TSH Members will be invited to provide attractive offers.
  • All participating TSH Members will be required to adhere to the new criteria to ensure that we are providing a first class product and service delivery.

PROMOTIONS - WHAT'S EVERYONE DOING?
TSH and many of our members are already in full marketing mode, with lots of promotions and marketing activities in place, here are the latest:

  • TSH will be exhibiting at the Melbourne Caravan & Camping Expo being held from 9-14 March.
  • The Bundanoon Highland Gathering, better known as Brigadoon, has announced this week, it's 2010 Chieftain, Susan Cooke, who will preside over the days activities on Saturday April 17 April.
  • Congratulations go to two of our great vineyards, with Tertini Wines taking home a Gold Medal at the Sydney Royal Wine Show for its 2005 Riesling, and to Sally's Corner Wines who scooped the top award at the recent Southern Highlands Regional Wines Show.  
  • Still in the  vineyards, congratulations also to Bluemetal Vineyard for the opening of their Vineyard Cottage.
  • The Illawarra Fly Tree Top Walk are celebrating their 2nd Birthday with a month of "madness".  Click here for all the details.
  • Full marks also go to Bluemetal Vineyard, Centennial Vineyards, Cuttaway Hill, Diamond Creek Estate, Pulpit Rock Estate and Tertini Wines, who will showcase their Southern Highlands Cool Climate Wines to Sydneysiders at the NSW Wine Week Cellar Door event in Sydney on Sunday 14 March.
  • Sydney Weekender to feature Montrose Berry Farm.  Mike Whitney and the Sydney Weekender team visited recently and this segment will air on Saturday 20 March on Channel 7.

So, if you have something special planned, not just events, but perhaps just a change to your product, then make sure you let us know so we can tell everyone!

TOURISM AFTER HOURS

Our March Tourism After Hours event for 2010 will be held today, Tuesday 9 March at Birrong Suri Alpacas, in Canyonleigh.  Thanks to all those who have already RSVP'd.  If you haven't and would like to come along, please just give us a call at the VIC on 4871 2888.

Our TAH book is fully booked out now for this current financial year, with events planned to take us throughout the region.  If you are interested in hosting one of our future TAH events, let us know and we'll pop you on our Expressions Of Interest for the next financial year?  The April TAH will be held at Southern Highlands Taxis, Coaches & Hire Cars on Tuesday 13 April - Claim this date in your diary.
