EXTRA News

To ensure that the communication TSH distributes to its members is effective TSH will be cutting back on adhoc communication and as such has initiated a bi monthly e-news to support our current monthly industry e-news. This will cut back on the amount of emails that you receive from TSH. It is therefore essential you take note of the opportunities and deadlines highlighted in upcoming news articles and respond accordingly.

Congratulations to our industry for pulling together and supporting each other and the community at large when fronted with the GAS crisis of last week.

Landmark Attraction to Close

There is sadness in the air with the news that one of the regions iconic and landmark attractions is to close its doors on the 30th June 2010 after nearly 25 years of operation. Tourism pioneers Gary & Nerida Barnsley have both decided to hang the shingle up on their property ‘A Little Piece of Scotland’ at Sutton Forest and enjoy retirement. The quaint and picturesque Scottish shop has been a big part of the local tourism landscape as has its proprietor and famous shortbread-baker Nerida Barnsley.

We can hear the groans as you read this news..…. “No more Shortbread!” For years Nerida has been baking 6 days a week & delivering her delicacy to various parts of the Highlands. The Highlands will miss Nerida & Garry’s passion, drive, knowledge and friendly faces but our well wishes go out to them as we tip our lids to both Tourism Ambassadors & Pioneers…THANK U Nerida & Garry!

Alpacas Made a Big Hit

The Southern Highlands Visitor Information Centre at Mittagong last week hosted some very unusual visitors. Alpacas from four local farms, along with their owners, took up residence in the Information Centre’s grounds as a part of the Australian Alpaca Association’s National Alpaca Week. Organiser and TSH Member Fiona Vanderbeek from Birrong Suri Alpacas at Canyonleigh said that it was a great day with hundreds of visitors popping into the VIC to get up close with the animals and the exhibits. It was a chance to make Alpaca Farm Tourism more visible and accessible. We are hoping to undertake a similar promotion next year.
