2010 SOUTHERN HIGHLANDS HOLIDAY PLANNER & MAP
Congratulations to all of our members who booked their advertisements in our 2010 Holiday Planner & Map and qualified for our Earlybird savings!  Well worth the effort with savings per advert, between, $200 & $450.

We strongly encourage all of our members to participate in this key tourism publication so that we can continue to grow visitation adn business opportunties for you and our region.  Expressions of interest close off on 15 October, so please be sure to let us know if you are wanting to advertise in the 2010 edition of the Holiday Planner.  Keep in mind that we can talk about how much there is to see and do in the Southern Highlands until the cows come home, BUT if we can't back it up with actual product, then consumers and potential visitors do not get a true representation of ALL that we have to see and do!

Remember:

  • This Holiday Planner is the official tourism publication for the Southern Highlands, and is produced by TSH. It acts as a key call to action and fulfillment piece for enquiries generated by TSH marketing campaigns.
  • There will also be a pull out map included in this edition AND all advertisers will be included on the map.
  • Distribution of the publication will be far and wide, to national and international consumers via Visitor Information Centres, Tourism NSW and Tourism Australia's trade and consumer fulfilment activities, consumer expos, TSH direct mail responses, as a downloadable e-brochure via the TSH website (www.southern-highlands.com.au), and other selected channels.
  • There will be 60,000 copies printed and distributed and an additional 40,000 maps.

OUT & ABOUT
Our Tourism Manager Steve Rosa recently returned from a successful trade mission to India as part of a 23 strong NSW tourism delegation with the purpose of establishing key relationships with the Indian tourism industry.  Steve represented the Southern Highlands and the Grand Pacific Drive touring route during the nine day mission to key business cities of Delhi, Ahmedabad and Mumbai.  Steve's mission was subsidised by Tourism NSW and the Grand Pacific Drive Project.  The mission provided Steve with an opportunity to present 'one on one' to over 250 of India's best travel agents and wholesale tourism operators along with various tourism media.  Whilst Steve said that Australia was not flavour of the month at the moment in India because of all the negative publicity surrounding the recent Indian student attacks in Melbourne it was good to be able to reassure the Indian tourism industry that these were isolated cases & that it was still safe to tra! vel to Australia & especially the friendly Illawarra & Southern Highlands.  Steve said the cricket mad nation was excited at the prospect of the new International Hall of Fame opening at the Bradman Museum late next year.  This development will provide intending visitors to Australia with another reason why the Southern Highlands should be included on their future itineraries.  Steve will undertake a presentation to Councillors later this month of his achievements and future strategy with this emerging market for the Highlands.

TULIP TIME UPDATE
The Tulip Time Festival for 2009 has concluded with overall visitation down by approximately 20% on 2008.  The decrease in visitation was inevitable with the worst weather conditions experienced in its 49 year history.  However there were many positives throughout the festival, the most amazing being the tulips themselves - what strong sturdy plants they are!  The Food & Wine Street Fair and the House & Garden Fair were two new initiatives for this year's festival.

A big thanks goes out to all involved, particularly the Tulip Time Committee.  And, we take this opportunity to farewell Clr Ken Halstead and welcome to Clr Graham McLaughlin, as the new Tulip Time Chairperson.  The committee will be meeting shortly to finalise the 2009 Festival and complete the planning of the 50 year celebration in 2010.

STOP PRESS:  Don't miss out on the annual Tulip Bulb Dig up in Corbett Gardens on Saturday 7 November from 8am until 11am.  Bring your spade and gloves, buy a bag and fill it for just $15 (bags hold approx. 50 bulbs).

WINE, ARTS & ROSES
The annual Wine, Arts & Roses Festival will take place from Saturday 31 October through until Sunday 15 November 2009.  This year we see more and more events and gardens included in the activities.  There are a record number of artists opening their studios on the first weekend of the festival, and lots of galleries and exhibitions open for the duration of the festival.  In addition there is an opera, wine show and lots of cellar doors and rose gardens open.  Check out all of the events on the website:  www.southern-highlands.com.au/WAR
