Mittagong / Welby

For most visitors Mittagong represents the gateway to the Southern Highlands. However, many people would be unaware that the town has many interesting surprises. Mittagong has more history per square inch of its townscape than many other areas in the Southern Highlands.

There are also natural highlights such as Mt Gibraltar (The Gib), Mt Alexandra and Lake Alexandra plus bushwalking tracks such as the Box Vale Walking Track. The older part of town is a mass of fantastic laneways and enormous trees, making a ride through this town a real treat. Along the way you will also discover craft shops, art galleries, old churches, historic buildings, cute coffee shops, antique dealers and needlecraft treasures.

Located close to Mittagong, the Welby Mountain Bike Track begins in the carpark of Welby Cemetry at the end of Meranie Street. Track 1 is an easy 1.56km ride and Track 2 is moderate, combine the both and it is a total distance 5.8 km. Please take care when crossing trails & roads. Watch out for dog walkers, trail bikers and joggers. A detailed map is available for FREE from the Visitors Centre in Mittagong.
