The Midweek Lunchtime Recital in St Jude’s Church Bowral on Wednesday 25 April will be presented by St Jude’s resident organist, Allan Beavis. The program will contain two works, the Prelude and “St Anne” Fugue by J S Bach and the Fourth Organ Sonata of Alexandre Guilmant. The subject of Bach's "St Anne" Fugue is identical to the opening phrase of the hymn tune "St Anne" traditionally associated with the hymn “Our God our help in ages past” which is regularly sung on ANZAC Day. While it is unlikely that Bach had any knowledge of the hymn tune the St Anne Fugue is nevertheless appropriate for ANZAC Day. Alexandre Guilmant is a composer in the Romantic Tradition. This tradition suffered following the second world war as both World Wars I and II were seen to be inextricably tied to the Romantic tradition. A new musical
